Hand applique flowers embelished with either a yo-yo cetre or a bead cluster centre. Three yo-yo flowers and all with embroidered stems. Combination of hand and machine quilting.

Quilt no 3

Traditional doll quilt in pink and grey, an on-point Jacob's Ladder/Underground Railroad pattern. The quilt measures 16.75" x 19.5" after it has been washed and shrunk. Machine pieced from cotton fabrics (some of them are batikes, and there are some metal embossed fabrics). Machine quilted with light pink polyester machine embroidery thread. Quilter's Dream Request 100% Cotton batting. Binding has been stitched down to the back by hand. The quilt has not yet been labeled - I will personalize the label once I know who will receive the quilt. The detail picture is a little bit yellow, I wasn't able to get that out, but the other pictures showes the colours truly.

Another Little Deadline Reminder!

Hi all - later this week you will begin to see the first photos of quilts for the swap - I now have 6 or 7 in my possession and am going to begin uploading them very soon. Don't forget, if you want to take part in this swap, I need photos by the 1st of July, which is sooner than it sounds! I will also be sending an email reminder out later this week in case you don't keep up with the blog (in which case, you wouldn't be reading this, so I probably don't need to mention it here)... The quilts that have come in so far are lovely and varied; I am really looking forward to seeing more from you all!

A few quilts done...

Well folks, I now have photos from three participants - remember, if you finish before the deadline (1 July), you are welcome to send photos early. Once I have 5 or 6, I will begin posting photos on the blog so you can see some of the treats in store...

We are getting closer to the deadline now - I would like all photos by 1 July, which may sound far off, but is actually only just over a month away. So ladies - get stitching!

Many thanks to everyone who has expressed an interest in this swap (not too late - you can do it any time up to the deadline), and extra thanks to those who have told friends or blogged about it, or put a button up.

I have now chosen the winners of the ATCs which were an incentive for spreading the word - I made a list of the people in the swap (everyone who signed up as potentially interested got one chance) and added extra chances for those who have blogged it or put up a button. In total, there were 95 names on the list - we have just under 50 people playing (though I left myself off!). I then went to a random number generator and chose 5 numbers - as above. Those numbers equate to the names (drumroll please...):

I've decided I'm going to reward everyone who manages to actually complete a quilt for this swap, by drawing for a few extra ATCs at the end - I always have extras floating around and it's a little fun additional bonus as a thank you for taking part. Of course, everyone who manages to complete a quilt gets a much better reward than the chance of one of my ATCs - they get a little quilt!

New Round Open!

Hello all - I have decided to take the plunge and open Round 4 of ALQS. This round will take both traditional and art quilts and everything in between. It will run using the same method (with a few small changes) as ALQS3, which, overall, I thought very successful from an adiminstrative point of view (though one quilt did actually WALK to its new owner from around the globe - or at least it seemed to as the post took so long - in the end, of course, we were just glad it wasn't lost).

Rather than reiterate all the rules here on the front page of the (redesigned!) blog, I have put a new page tab at the top of the blog which links to the rules - please feel free to ask questions if anything is unclear - I'll do my best to answer as quickly as possible.

If you have friends who you think may be interested, do direct them over - the more the merrier. And if you want a button for your blog, please feel free to grab the one from the sidebar (I will be updating it shortly with a "4", so you may want to wait for that one, if you don't see the "4" yet!) or use the HTML code below.



In order to encourage publicity for this swap, I'll be doing a little contest - offering these 5 ATCs (ATCs are Artist Trading Cards - they are 2.5x3.5" in size and these have all been made by me) up to five winners who join (in a preliminary way) this swap or mention it on their blog. If you express an interest in taking part in the swap, I will enter you into the drawing once. If you simply mention it in a blog entry, you will receive one entry; if you also put a button in your sidebar (code below), you will be enterred twice. So potentially, you could be enterred in three times! If you don't want to take part in the swap, you can still be enterred in the draw if you mention it on your blog. As I said, I'll pick five winners who will receive one ATC each. I'll do the drawing around the end of April or beginning of May. I'll confirm the drawing date later.

I do hope to see lots of familiar names expressing an interest here - and new folks, too. I haven't swapped in a while and am beginning to get itchy fingers...

Thinking about a new round

Apologies to those of you who keep checking back to see if there's another round of this swap happening (if there are any of you who are!) - I have been working a lot more hours lately, and just don't have as much time as I did (or energy) for organising things, so I've let this swap slide. I am, however, thinking about another round of the swap, in the same sort of style as last time (i.e. you finish a piece and submit photos in order to play) only not restricted to art quilts - I expect I'll make my mind up in the next few weeks, so really, watch this space! And thanks for your patience.
