Freedom to Fly

The mini quilt is made with all shades of blues. A few have been repeated. The birds are my own pattern and have been fused on. They have decorative stitching on them to mimic feathers. The lace was hand stitched on as were the flowers.  While I was making this I kept thinking about freedom to express myself and the freedom that we have when writing dream.

  The backing is brown and teal.

The Perfect Home

Inspired and named by my 6 year old daughter, as a beginner and new to quilting this is only the second quilt I have every made. Images applied by machine and machine quilted.

Bright Summer

Made with microwave dyed cotton and including some of the plastic bag that I dyed the fabric in!  Raw edge strip pieced its machine quilted and embellished using hand stitching a little beading and a small amount of paint. Its backed with natural calico and has 80/20 wadding. I’ve included a sleeve for hanging and a label with my details on the back.

Coffee with Vincent

Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's "Still Life with Coffee - Blue Enamel", this block is machine appliqued with hand embroidered outlines and the quilting was done using variegated thread  and decorative stitches.

Most of the fabric used in this quilt was inked and painted in a guild workshop several years ago.

Dahlia

This quilt is hand pieced with the English paper technique, hand quilted with Perle 8 thread and embellished with French knots in the centre with DMC threads.

Reminder/Thanks

You should all now have had an email from me reminding you that it's only one month to the photo deadline for this swap - many of you have emailed me back to let me know about your progress - thanks for that (it's not necessary, though, so don't worry if you haven't emailed me).

As you know, this swap is set up as it is partly so that people who find they are unable to play as the deadline looms, can drop out without letting anyone down. I hope for everyone's sake that you will all be able to join in and receive one of the fantastic quilts we are making, but if you can't, it's not a problem, so don't worry...

Untitled

This is a paper pieced block using a Marcis Hohn pattern for birdhouses.  The openings are yoyos.  Each rooftop is quilted with "feathers" and the house portion have variouse quilt designs on them.  Stippling is the quilting style for the remainder.  The back has cats all over it and contains a label naming this swap, the year and my name.

The background fabric is batik. It's covered with organza. Between the two layers are some pieces of fabric (vase and stems) and some artificial flowers (silk flowers). I've quilted around the flowers and around the heart prints on the batik. I've put buttons in the centre of the flowers. The batting is cotton and so is the back of the quilt.
