Quilting by the light of the moon

Winter's coming and the days are getting shorter.  For a night owl like me that means quilting by the light of the moon.  Somewhere in a valley wedged between the mountains is a peaceful canoe moon.  On a cold, clear and starry night silver moonbeams wrap a lodge in light.   Winter's deep snow outside is doing naught to stop all the quilting that is going on inside.  This is just how I  plan on passing winter this year as I am always content quilting by the light of the moon.   

I used all kinds of scraps from left over projects.  The moonbeams and the moon are outlined by couched silver cording.  The stars are made with shimmering silver thread though hard to see in the photos.  The white band on the bottom is cut on a angle to imitate banked snow giving the illusion of an uneven project, but it is indeed and exact 12x12 piece.  The back is made from a couple of orphan pieces.  I hope it's new owner is a night owl like me!

I have used a mixture of African Shwe Shwe and Japanese Shibori fabrics.  The design was fabric led and developed after a workshop with Janice Gunner. Quilting has been done with cotton perle and sashiko thread and the quilt has been further embellished with beads.

Hand dyed wools by a good friend of mine and reproduction civil war prints were used.  Machine quilted.

Liquidamber

This little quilt is acrylic felt embellished with silk, wool, muslin, organza , tea dyed along with the background,  Then hand stitched and beaded. The leaf is made of silk paper.  And then machine quilted.

Who, whoo...

The background is hand-dyed/painted with the funky spunky owl applique'd on top -- eyes, beak & feet are all felt.  The back has a pillow encasing, if you want to make the piece into a cushion. Alternatively, I can provide a hanging sleeve or tab corners.

Joy

Materials:  Hand dyed fabric and commercial fabric  

Technique:  Fused applique , machine quilted, embellished with movable eyes and fabric paint  

I saw this on Pinterest:  it was made out of paper and I had to make it in fabric----It just made me happy looking at it and the movable eyes cracked me up, LOL.  Here is my interpretation of the pieces... the background and the word joy are from my stash of hand-dyes the rest came out of my scrap bag from past quilts.

Three Mother Goddesses

Inspired by a stone carving in the Roman Museum, Bath. The goddesses are cut from a piece of complex cloth and attached to a discharged background, with a hand-dyed border fabric and a discharged fabric binding. Machine quilted in variegated threads.
