It is made of a handdyed fabric on a commercial one (the blue one). It is patched and quilted by machine. When the quilt was already quilted, I added some stamping and some threads.

First I created a quilt with a lot of texture from different fabrics and treatments of those fabrics. Then I painted over the whole surface.

Background is an ice dyed parfait, the leaves are made from commercial batiks.

This quilt is a hand appliqued traditional block with "meaning".  Bluebirds are for happiness; flower for beauty and trophy for good fortune.  So whoever receives this will receive a blessing for the year of happiness, beauty and good fortune. 

Photos beginning to arrive!

I now have photos in of 7 little quilts for this swap - all very different and all lovely. I can't wait to see more!  A few more in, and I will post the first lot of photos.

Just a little reminder that tomorrow is the first of August (yikes!) - that means, just two months until the photo deadline if you want to take part.  Photos need to be to me by the 1st of October.

Quick reminder!

Hello everyone. We now have nearly 60 people signed up as being interested in this swap, so even if a good handful of them run into obstacles that prevent them finishing a piece, I think the selection of quilts is going to be huge, varied and fabulous (as it has been all along, luckily!).  

Just a quick reminder that the deadline for photos of your quilts is 1st October. That sounds like a long time, but is actually only three months away, and of course, there's summer in there. For some of you, that will be a good thing, with more time to sew (like me), for others, it will mean less time to sew, so don't forget to build time into your schedule for your ALQS7 quilt(s).

And finally, just to remind you that this round's piece must fnish at 12" square. So please don't make a fantastic 18x20 piece, as you won't be able to use it!

So, if I have received an email of interest from you, I should have now added you to the list in the sidebar (and, I think, in all cases, emailed you to respond). If you have sent me an email and you don't see your name on the side - or if I haven't linked to your blog, or I've got your country wrong or any other error - please let me know!  There's a lot to keep track of, so it's certainly possible I have made a mistake.

In this swap, I'll be creating a mailing list in my address book to send reminders (only a few, occasional ones) as well, so once I think I have most of the people signed up who are interested (in a preliminary way) I will send a test email to make sure that list is working.

And once again, I know a lot of you have played before, so probably know what to do, but if anyone has any questions at all, do let me know and I'll address them as soon as I can!

Thanks for all the responses so far - I'm still working my way through my emails to add potentially interested people to the Artist Pool, so don't panic if I haven't added you yet. Between a week's holiday from school, my mother visiting, and the Jubilee, it's quite busy here...

Announcing ALQS7!

A little sooner than expected as I had some time this morning to actually get near the computer (I have 3 kids and my mother is staying at the moment - sometimes getting near the computer is tricky).

The full rules for the swap can be found in the ALQS7 Rules tab at the top of the page, but here are the details in a nutshell:

SIZE:  12" (30cm) square
STYLE: any
MATERIALS: any, but must include some fabric and some stitch
DEADLINE: Monday, 1 OCTOBER 2012
REQUIREMENTS:  AT LEAST TWO PHOTOS (one of whole quilt, one of some detail).  PEOPLE WHO SEND ONLY ONE PHOTO WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY AND THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY  NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
